Topo Kit Deep Dive Workshop

Watch on Campus+

In response to the feedback we received since the launch of Land Kit 1.0 in November, we have been running Intro Land Kit workshops to give users the opportunity to experience the range of Land Kit’s tools and uses. Knowing the limitations of these introductory workshops, we decided to offer a new set of more interactive digital workshops designed to provide users with a deeper, first-hand understanding of Land Kit’s capabilities.

The first of these will focus on Topo Kit, diving deep into workflows and techniques that will allow you to create your entire 3D topography and continue design in 3D efficiently. These deep dive workshops will encourage you to follow along and engage in interactive design challenges to gain greater insight into Topo Kit’s functionality!

Details

Each 3-hour workshop session is divided into two segments. The first segment will focus on setting up workflows and getting used to the range of tools available in Topo Kit. The second segment will focus on unique ways to use Topo Kit, showcasing applicable examples of projects that used Topo Kit, and providing time to engage with participants' real world examples to show how Topo Kit can be used in their designs. Participants will be given exclusive access to presentation materials, live instructional demos, and interactive work time with direct assistance from our team. Additionally, all participants will be provided with a 90-day Land Kit Pro license to explore Land Kit on your own time.

Our Learning Objectives:

Topo Kit is a tool specifically designed to evolve your topographic design workflow by packaging essential modeling functions into a suite of tools that are more robust, efficient, and easy to use than today’s industry standard. This deep dive workshop is designed for users with basic knowledge of Rhino and Grasshopper, although new users are welcome to join to gain more knowledge of how this new tool set could expand their current methods of designing. The primary goals of this workshop include showing the full range of uses for the free and Pro components while engaging users interactively and giving participants the chance to engage the developers with their real world examples to show how Topo Kit can address the challenges of the modern designer. Design challenges will be structured to give participants the ability to work with provided geometry or create their own to test how components work independently and within a workflow.

New Tools for powerful topographic modification…

Our new topo “mods” let you modify and shape the topography in diverse and powerful ways with simple inputs.

Specific examples will include comprehensive topographic modeling and design tools for earthworks, layout, retaining walls, curbs, paths, delineating material areas, smoothing, patching your topography, and much more! Newly developed components and improvements to be released in the next version (1.0.5) of Land Kit will be included in the workshop which include:

  • Grade Topo Mod - This component works by using a geometry input as a modifier to your topography which you can then grade the topo away from that geometry by designating a slope for the grading, an offset where the grading begins, and an optional boundary input for where the modification can take place.

  • Sculpt Topo Mod - This component takes a 2D geometry input and regrades your topography its aligns with in plan to create mounds, swales, ridges, etc. It does this by utilizing an offset from the geometry, a height of the grading, a slope designation for steepness of slopes away from geometry, and an optional boundary input for where the modification can take place.

  • Smooth Topo Mod - Smooth any area of your topo at any point in the process.

  • Patch Topo Mod - Formerly known as “Modify Topo” this newly named component provides the powerful ability to patch in changes using simple breaklines, spots, and other topo features like walls and paths.

Participants will leave the workshop with a deep understanding of Topo Kit as well as methods for linking these techniques to your existing computational design workflow.

Come eager to learn and share in our enthusiasm for the future of topographic design!

And if you’re really excited, you can get started with Topo Kit today.

Hope to see you soon,
