Land Kit 2.0.1 Release
Land Kit 2.0.1 has some great stability improvements and a few new exciting features…
New Features
Calculate Heat Flux
Calculate Heat Flux - As cities get hotter, we have to get more serious about how we approach the presence of heat in the landscape. Our new tool takes advantage of sun exposure analysis and area data values to visualize ground heat flux.
There are a lot of variables here and we are trying to refine the best way to do this for our users. We will be sharing more about this conversation soon! In the meantime, we’ve categorized this component as EXPERIMENTAL.
In addition to solving cut-fill, water flow, and other performance in real-time, you can now also visualize heat flux.
Environment Color Rule Icon
This example changes the paving/pattern color based on aggregated water flow.
Environment Color Rule - When applying color to your paving patterns there are some features that allow for a lot of creative freedom (attractor, gradient, and image color rules). But we thought it would be great to be able to control paving color with an environment layer. With our Layer by Formula component, you could do so much.
Imagine, for example putting lighter pavers (higher albedo) in the sun and darker (lower albedo) pavers in the shade. This could be controlled parametrically with this color rule.
Eliminate overlapping plants with a given tolerance using the Remove Duplicates component
Other Improvements
Machines (both PC’s and MAC’s) that are controlled by an admin with multiple users should now have fewer issues when adding and using a license key. More on licensing.
The Fill Areas with Pattern planting component does a lot better at honoring the cluster_radius attribute of any given plant species. The results can be really nice.
Add Occurrence Layer, which was primarily used for previously for documenting the frequency of water flow lines (curve vertices) now also recognizes points, plants, and mesh vertex “occurrences”.
Sun Exposure always makes a “hours_of_sun” layer now in addition to “sun exposure”. This is useful for the Layer by Formula component, as its formulas do not allow. Along similar lines… Upslope area component also outputs “upslope_area”
Remove Overlaps for planting is much faster.
Bloom phenology in the Draw Bloom Calendar component is improved, allowing sub-monthly bloom periods.
Option to use Smooth Topo Mod w/o a boundary. Will smooth/resample the whole topo area if there is no boundary provided.
Walls / Curbs / Stairs drawing should be working much better when it comes to the Draw step.
Carbon Calculation data from SASAKI’s Carbon Conscience is now simplified and baked into the component.
Notable Bug Fixes
Areas outputs are more reliable about having normals pointing up.
Cut Sections will now cut through SubD. Like butter.
Bake+Preview includes more geometry types.
Static Storage Layer component fixes water volume calculations for certain units-related circumstances.
If you are having a plant packing issue in Rhino 8 SR16, that’s because it’s actually an issue McNeel (Rhino) has recognized. We fixed it for this release, just in case McNeel doesn’t fix it right away.
Let us know if you have any questions about these updates or other adoption questions!!

Each species better represents a cluster radius.
